Reviews

Highly Readable
What marks this book apart from peers in its field is its readable nature. Believe it or not -- and I was surprised myself by this -- I virtually finished this 1000 page behemoth off in a week's intensive reading. I have never done that with any textbook on any subject. Marino brings his subject matter down to earth and uses wit and style to cut through jargon that marks most other ICU texts. Notably, I think this book should be read by generalists in internal medicine as well as ICU specialists as its clinical pearls and at times iconoclastic views of matters are needed in all medical wards, not just in critical care units.

The ICU book review
This book has been very helpful. It is very thorough and explains things very nicely. Would recommend it to any intern, resident, or fellow working in an ICU setting.

Great book !
The best and eaiser book that you may find for ICU. it simplifies a lot of complicated topics into an easy way. I recommend it for everybody even thoses who are not interested in ICU.

very helpful in the ICU
Definitely THE book to get for the ICU. It helped me tremendously. And it's not just guidelines, it tells you the pertinent studies, has great graphs, etc. The only problem is that the book is pretty massive; it's tough to carry it around with you.

New RN user
My husband bought this book to help him with his new RN position in the ICU. He was a respiratory therapist for 13 years before becomming an RN, so he already had some medical knowledge. He read this book front to back and still uses it for reference. He said that it is a detailed book, but since he works in a small ICU, the doctors really depend on him to know his stuff. Remember, be nice to your nurse, they keep the doctors from killing you. (Just kidding Dr. T)
